Memories of the Waves at Big Sur

Memories of the Waves at Big Sur is a piece inspired by the soundscape of huge breakers from the pacific hitting the California coastline. It's an experiment in attempting to render the experience of being stood on the beach surrounded by the continual enveloping boom of the waves and ethereal howling of the wind. I'm interested in how we record soundscapes. The piece also tries to approximate the distortion of perspective that our imperfect memories introduce. If field recordings are the equivalent of photographs, then transcribing the sounds like this is perhaps akin to sketching from memory, or scribbling descriptions in a notebook.
