Untitled January 08

For six musicians (or multiples thereof) and guitar music Write out the notes in a line from the chords from a song as they would be played on a regularly tuned six string guitar low to high.

For example: E Major in the open position: E B E G# B E, A Major in the open position x A E A C# E

the x denoting an played sting.

Stick to the chord voicings specified in the sheet music.

Assign each musician to a 'string' of the guitar and play the notes as one.

The ensemble works through the chords of the song at a slow tempo determined by a pre-determined strategy.

Strategies:

Metronome/conductor: the ensemble simply works though at a steady pace.

Decay: for plucked instruments the chord is considered finished when the notes have totally decayed.

Breath (borrowed from Steve Reich): for wind instruments, the chords are sounded for one comfortable breath.

The ensemble is free to decide their own strategies.
