Scrap Metal Organ, work in progress
In the old works where my band practices, there is a rich source of scrap metal (steel bar mostly) from the tool maker who occupies one of the units. I collected some of this to build my next insrument. Working on the same process as the auto-koto, spinning beaters hit the metal and make a sort of motorised celeste. The main difference (and advancement) between this and the auto-koto is that it will be played by a keyboard. The randomness of the metal bars tuning means that the instruments exists within it's own temprement. This marks the start of a new interest of mine into "Found Tunings" where the natural resonance of objects is exploited to provide new scales.
